Southside FC came out on top in a thrilling 6-4 win over Liberty FC on Thursday night, with goals flying in on both sides. The standout performer was David Marshall, who netted a superb hat trick to lead the attacking charge. His movement and finishing kept Liberty’s defense on the back foot all evening.

While Liberty made things difficult with moments of quality in the first half, goalkeeper Ryan Neil produced several huge saves to keep Southside in the match during key stretches—none bigger than a 1v1 halfway through the second half that kept Liberty from gaining the moment they needed to truly get back into the match.

Head Coach Dan made crucial tactical adjustments at halftime, shifting the tempo and giving Southside more control in the midfield. The second-half changes paid off, with the team settling in, controlling possession, and pulling away on the scoreboard to secure the victory.

Southside FC was also awarded a forfeit win on Saturday, as Leawood was unable to field a full squad due to player availability. While the team would have preferred to earn the result on the field, the additional three points capped off a strong week and helped fuel Southside’s push up the standings.

With six points earned in just a few days, Southside FC now climbs into third place in the table—edging into the top three on goal difference. The race remains tight, and that spot may be short-lived depending on the result of Tuesday night’s (06/17/25) matchup between Crown Villa and Olathe. As the playoff battle heats up, every result counts.
