This past week Southside FC took on Leawood Forest at Barstow High School. Southside was coming off a solid win against Liberty in their previous fixture and were looking to bring that same consistency into this match. Leawood, coming off two losses to start the season, was hungry to put three points on the board and was determined to make a statement.

The game started, and Southside came out making an early statement goal in the 8th minute from forward Huib Siefkes, assisted by Guilherme Caldas. After the reset, Southside continued to apply the pressure and intensity on Leawood, and four minutes later another goal would occur from forward Trey Berman assisted by Romario Harding. As the game developed, Southside picked up three more goals: one from Caldas and two from Berman. In the 31st minute, the game took a turn for the worse for Leawood as their captain was shown a second yellow, forcing Leawood to play with ten men. This event capped off the first half.

Going into the second half, Leawood had a mountain to overcome, and Southside had a job to finish. Southside’s intensity continued as forward R. Harding found the back of the net with the help of Siefkes in the 58th minute. Just two minutes later, midfielder David Marshall also found the back of the net off a set piece to make the score 7-0. Southside would continue this intensity to the final whistle and get a clean sheet on the game, with the final score being 7-0.

This win keeps Southside FC in third place according to the league table, and they remain unbeaten (2-1-0). For their upcoming fixture, Southside will be taking on Crown Villa, a squad hungry to make an upset and bring their record to .500 on the season. Come out for a match you do not want to miss at Blue River Park on Saturday, April 26th, with kickoff at 6pm.
